- (1888PressRelease) March 14, 2013 - Mostafa Ronaghi will give a keynote presentation on "The New Era of Medicine Enabled by Advancing NextGen Sequencing" at GTC's 3rd Next Generation Sequencing Conference on June 20-21, 2013 in San Francisco, CA.
The cost of DNA sequencing has been reduced by several orders of magnitude in the past decade. This dramatic reduction has enabled the scientific community to address an increasingly diverse range of biological problems. The scale and efficiency of sequencing that can now be achieved is providing unprecedented progress in areas from agriculture, forensics, consumer genetics and diagnostics. In his talk, Dr. Ronaghi will review recent progresses on Illumina's platforms. In addition, the use of next generation sequencing in molecular diagnostics will be discussed.
Dr. Ronaghi is currently the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Illumina and is responsible for leading internal research programs and evaluating new technologies for the company. He is an experienced entrepreneur and was involved in the start-up of four life sciences companies. Mostafa holds more than 20 pending and issued patents and has written more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in journals and books.
The 3rd Next Generation Sequencing Conference is a forum for industry, academic and government leaders in the field to present on the current and future applications of the technology as well as share strategies, best practices and protocols on the usage of the tool. Hot topics that will be covered include clinical diagnostics development, the microbiome and infectious disease applications, bioinformatics and methods of data analysis, nanopore sequencing and other future sequencing technologies on the horizon.
This conference is part of the larger Nucleic Acid Summit, which includes the Bioinformatics & Data Management Strategies pre-conference workshop on June 19th and is co-located with the 4th RNAi Research & Therapeutics Conference.
