The value of packaging machines, produced in the European Union 2014, accounts for €11.6bn. The individual European Union-countries are showing very different market shares at these values, as the new Quest report points out.
(1888PressRelease) August 18, 2015 - Packaging machines may be subdivided into three product segments, i.e. cleaning machines, fill and sealing machines as well as outer packaging machines such as cartoners, case packing systems a.m. Outer packaging machines as well as fill and sealing machines make almost half of the market with 48% resp. 47% each.
The value of outer packaging machines stands with €5.6bn (2014). With 49% market share Italy is the leading European Union-country for such machines. Germany comes next with 22% market share. The 21 remaining European Union-countries cover only a market share of 8%.
The value of fill and sealing machines consists of €5.5bn (2014). 77% of the fill and sealing machines' production apply for Germany (57%) and Italy (20%). The 23 remaining European Union-countries cover only a market share of 11%.
Finally Germany holds the relatively strongest position at cleaning machines with 49% market share since Italy shows a clearly smaller market share with 17%.
The report states that the high market shares of German packaging machines in the European Union leads to an increased pressure to unlock export markets outside the European Union.
