Mojave Philosophy, a dramatic short film depicting the life of a woman past her prime stuck in a small town, wows audiences with its raw, simplistic beauty.
Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) April 09, 2009 - Doorpost.com received hundreds of entries for their annual film contest and the Mojave Philosophy was accepted as a qualifying entry on April 1, 2009.
This film is the creation of the writer / producer team of Kelly Reno and Sandy Hockenbery who enlisted award winning Director Tom Wozny to bring their vision to life.
Mojave philosophy is a brief exploration into the life and anguish of a woman who finds herself past her prime and stuck in a desolate desert town. It is exquisitely shot and directed and explores the unrefined beauty of the Mojave Desert, creating an oxymoron of sorts, a “breathtaking desert slum”.
Unlike many short films, in this brief 5-minutes there is a unique story that many can relate to in one way or another. The unexpected emotion brought to life at the end of the film is engaging and really draws in the viewer.
While Reno, Hockenbery and Wozny each have many other projects to their credit independently, this is their first project as a team and this combination of talent has shown to produce amazing work.
Wozny, who makes a brief cameo as a hitchhiker in the film, stated, “this film is unlike my prior work and working with Reno allows me to explore a softer side of film making, stripped down to a simplistic beauty and raw emotion. I relied heavily on the talents of “Steely” (Tina-Marie Springham), the lead actress, to convey the thoughts and emotions of the character as well as played with the emotion of the landscape. It was a great film to make.”
The doorpost.com film project opened up voting on the qualified entries on April 1, 2009. Semifinalists will be chosen and announced on May 15, 2009. All semifinalists will be given $30,000 to make their finalist film on Hope. Finalists films will debut on August 22, 2009 and the winners will be announced at the Doorpost.com symposium September 17-19, 2009 in Tennessee where $175,00 in prizes will be awarded to finalist winners.
