Modi Addresses Rally in Coimbatore: Attacks Opposition of stalling Important Bills in the Rajya Sabha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Coimbatore on February 2 to inaugurate a medical college attached to the ESI and also to attend a Public Rally in the Codissia Grounds amidst tight security.
- (1888PressRelease) February 04, 2016 - Addressing his first ever rally in Coimbatore after becoming the Prime Minister, Modi stayed clear of taking on the regional heavyweights, DMK and ADMK, but instead wooed Dalit voters, who constitute about 21% of the total voters by assuring that reservations will continue.
Earlier the State BJP leaders made huge statements about the rally going to be a big launch pad for state assembly elections, but Modi, however, remained silent on speaking about any alliance plans in the state.
Political analysts and experts believe the reason Modi didn't take on the local Dravidian parties may be a calculated move so that all alliance options remained open.
Prime Minister Modi spoke fluently in Hindi, which was translated into Tamil by H.Raja, the party's national secretary.
Other senior leaders who attended the meeting included Muralidhar Rao, Tamilisai Soundarajan, L.Ganesan, Vanathi Srinivasan and H.Raja. And almost all of them took on both DMK and ADMK during their speech and interestingly projected BJP as an alternative, whereas in reality it is still to find a strong foothold in the state.
