Morten "Skovgaard" Danielsen, a virtuosic composer, earned his diploma in composition from the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Despite his traditional music training, Skovgaard, as he sometimes called himself, was heavily influenced by grunge and progressive rock, French expressionism and modern Danish confessional literature. His music ranged from strictly disciplined neoclassical compositions like "Distances (1991)" and "Formation (1995)" to electronic punk and rock fusion compositions like "The Kurt Cobain Songs (2002)" and "SleepMyDarlingJunkieSleep (2006)". Skovgaard collaborated with ModernoTrio at the Basically Modern Arts Sanctuary in Upstate New York during the last two years of his life creating works such as "Paris and Che: A Conversation" and "WOLF", as well as completing parts of his final work, "Donalds09".
"He Loved The Soft Porn Of The City" is part passion play and part psychedelic punk rock opera telling the story of a day in the life of the Danish composer. Moderno Trio founders, Dr. Allan Von Schenkel and Kristen Williams recalled their experiences with Skovgaard while creating the new work. Von Schenkel says, "Nothing was too crazy. We explored every idea." Along with surrealist film, elliptical story telling and modern dance, the multimedia show draws inspiration from classical powerhouses such as Liszt and Beethoven and progressive bands like Nirvana and Pink Floyd.
