Mitchell Mazda is showing Dothan customers how Mazda's new SKYACTIV technology will increase fuel efficiency in Mazda vehicles.

The new SKYACTIV technology is an innovative and more efficient way of engineering cars without forgoing the fun of driving. The newest technology is available on both a gasoline and a diesel engine. SKYACTIV-G is the world's first gasoline engine for mass production vehicles that can achieve a high compression ratio of 14:1. A 4-2-1 exhaust system, cavity pistons, multi-hole injectors and other features make the engine capable of achieving this high compression ratio. This engine gives improved everyday driving due to the increased torque at low- to mid-engine speeds. The overall improved engine efficiency leads to a 15 percent increase in fuel efficiency and torque.
The SKYACTIV-DRIVE transmission is a highly-efficient automatic transmission that essentially features the best attributes of all transmission types. The SKYACTIV-DRIVE combines all the advantages of conventional automatic transmissions, continuously variable transmissions, and dual clutch transmission. When compared to the current transmission found on the Mazda3, it has a four-to-seven percent improved fuel economy.
SKYACTIV technology will first be introduced on the Mazda3 this fall. The Mazda3 will be equipped with a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV direct injection gasoline engine with SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic transmission. The new CX-5 crossover will get the technology next, in early 2012.
