- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) December 05, 2011 - Mitchell Cooper is a young sculptor in New York City, who is currently taking molds of some of the top runway models in the world and turning them into modern Romanesque style sculptures at his studio, The Chocolate Factory NYC.
Cooper had an unlikely start into the world of contemporary art. He fist started working in finance for JPMorgan Chase, and while there he transformed his cubicle into his first major installation piece, "Cube Fever." Shortly after his fist creation, Cooper began making work in a small studio located on East 11th Street in the East Village of lower Manhattan. By mid 2007, Cooper had outgrown his East Village space and relocated to a much larger studio in a converted chocolate factory on the corner of West Broadway and Canal Street.
Cooper's early work consists of large scale collages and installations that involve an honest questioning of all doctrines that drain life's energies, however socially prevalent they may be: marriage, love, success, education, religion and happiness to name a few. His goal when creating a collage is to break down the truth to the "root level."
Since moving into The Chocolate Factory Studio in 2007, Cooper has been fortunate enough to work with some of the top runway models in the world. Most recently, he has taken a full body mold of supermodel Kasia Struss, from Women Management, to create a full body sculpture. The self taught artist, uses innovative materials and techniques to achieve his own unique style.
Cooper's upcoming show will consist of six full body nude sculptures of the top girls from IMG Model Management and Women Management. Before the show, each piece will be cast in multiples of four in aluminum. Each piece will then be painted a different solid soft pastel color.
