Mister Lucky's Lounge, LLC Launches Historic Music Preservation Initiative
Music Venue Where The Jackson 5 First Performed Publicly to Be Transformed Into Green Space.
- Gary, IN (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2011 - Mister Lucky's Lounge, LLC the newly launched Northwest Indiana-based project, announces its plans to preserve the legacy of the former Mister Lucky's Lounge music venue in Gary, Ind. Recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and referenced by Michael Jackson in his autobiography Moonwalk, Mister Lucky's Lounge is the venue where The Jackson 5 first performed publicly in 1964. Presently in disrepair, the building is set to be safely deconstructed with the goal of transforming it into a green space at 1100 Grant St. in Gary, Ind. The group hopes to raise funds for the green space project and other music initiatives through the sale of Mister Lucky's Lounge bricks and other commemorative merchandise.
Deconstruction of the original Mister Lucky's Lounge building is expected to begin later this summer. An initial limited release of 5,000 bricks, along with T-shirts and posters are currently available for purchase through the group's newly launched website, http://www.misterluckyslounge.com. A portion of all the proceeds will also be donated to VH1 Save the Music Foundation, an organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in America's public schools, while raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child's complete education.
Prior to the deconstruction of the property, Mister Lucky's Lounge, LLC will be scheduling a callout to the local community for help in gathering photos, stories and more in effort to preserve the memory of soul music scene from in and around Gary.
A spokesperson for Mister Lucky's Lounge, LLC has issued the following statement regarding the launch:
"Having roots in the Midwest, we feel that not enough has been done in a public effort to bring attention to the role music played in shaping the region. Through Mister Lucky's Lounge, LLC we hope to raise enough awareness so that the interested public, music fans and future generations can be a part of this movement."
