Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) April 02, 2015 - Mission San Antonio de Padua will once again host its annual Mission Days event on Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mission Days allows visitors to experience early California, with historical re-enactors in costume portraying soldiers, vaqueros on horseback, artisans, musicians and dancers. Mission crafts and activities will be demonstrated, including weaving, rope making, adobe brick making, candle making, beading, acorn grinding, tortilla making, and much more. Members of the New World Baroque Orchestra and Choir, under the direction of John Warren, will play mission era music in the 202 year old Mission Church. Artists will also be present to display and offer for sale their original artwork.

Mission San Antonio is surrounded by Fort Hunter Liggett, and is conveniently reached by publically accessible roads. The Mission's address is 1 Mission Road in Jolon, in southern Monterey County. Admission (includes Parking) is $10.00/car. Authentic mission era food will be offered for $10.00/plate.

Background:
Mission San Antonio de Padua, the third oldest Spanish mission in California, was founded by Junipero Serra in 1771. The Mission is a state historical landmark and is on the national register of historic places. The Mission remains an active Catholic parish and retreat center, and is currently involved in a fund raising campaign for seismic retrofitting of its historic adobe buildings.
