Midwest manufacturer helps dentists in Arizona "face" the COVID-19 pandemic
You wouldn't think a major equipment manufacturer in the Midwest would have any business helping dentists in Arizona, but they did. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we really are in this together.
- Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) May 22, 2020 - With the onset of COVID-19, Arizona Dental Association (AzDA) Executive Director, Sean Murphy, knew his dentist members needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), especially PPE at reasonable prices. So Murphy called on his connections with a Midwest manufacturer—one that his grandfather, grandmother, and uncle all retired from. Murphy’s goal was to provide face shields for all AzDA members, which totaled over 2,500.
After receiving Sean’s request, the manufacturer stepped up big time. Not only did it manufacture and donate thousands of face shields for free, but they also transported the shields from their Midwest headquarters to Scottsdale, AZ within a week, and on their own dime.
Upon receiving the truckload of boxes filled with face shields, Murphy and his AzDA team spent the better part of two days taking a break from their normal work responsibilities to package and mail free face shields to AzDA members throughout Arizona.
AzDA President Dr. Jennifer Enos remarked, “Who would have guessed a manufacturer that has nothing to do with dentistry would step up and help healthcare professionals in another state? It shows that we are in this together. As dental offices open up around Arizona, getting PPE for free was a big help. We are beyond grateful for the company’s generosity.”
In March, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey asked dentists to donate their PPE to healthcare professionals treating COVID-19 patients in hospitals and clinics. The Arizona dental community responded, donating masks, gloves, and other PPE. It’s nice to see that their generosity was rewarded, albeit from a very unlikely source.
