Group Executive Chef To Introduce New Menu & Host Series of Culinary Events.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) August 11, 2012 - Alfred Prasad was the youngest Indian chef in history to win the coveted Michelin star at Tamarind, the critically acclaimed London restaurant, and now he will share his culinary prowess in Orange County September 1 - 20. Prasad, group executive chef of the London-based Tamarind Collection, will helm operations at the company's Newport Beach restaurant for 3 weeks during which time he will introduce its new menu, which more closely resembles its predecessor across the Pond. He also will be hosting several culinary events and fundraisers during his visit.
At just 29, Prasad earned his first of 10 Michelin stars for his take on fine Indian cuisine. Today, he is considered one of Great Britain's best-loved chefs whose talents have landed him on the vanguard of his profession and warm charming personality have made him a media darling.
Born in central India, Prasad trained in Madras and then at the ITC Maurya Sheraton in Delhi. Building on his south Indian upbringing and affinity with the ingredients from the region, Prasad introduced coconut based curries and seafood typical of its coastline to the restaurant's British patrons. He also is recognized for his imaginative adaptations of the rich cuisine of the north such as delicately spiced, succulent kebabs and aromatic curries. Among his other innovations is a lamb Biryani served with a pastry lid and flavored with mint, rose water and saffron.
