  • (1888PressRelease) October 11, 2011 - Canadian Author Michael A. Lavergne's riveting new serial novel 'The Brevity of Life', launches on Amazon.com in both print and Kindle formats ahead of the Christmas gift giving season this week. A griping political thriller set in modern day Burma, 'The Brevity of Life' provides readers a vivid portrait of the South East Asian nation and the dark political forces which continue to shape its destiny. The writer's Amazon Author's page and the first three installations of the newly released serial novel can be found at: http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Lavergne/e/B005P8KXPY/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

"While this is certainly a work of fiction and one that has taken me the better part of two years to write," said the author, "the protagonists and the events which both form and drive their actions, are not far removed from those which have loosely inspired the story."

After six years based in Asia as an executive consultant in social and environmental compliance, Michael moved his family back to Canada earlier this year in time to finish the novel. To the writer's satisfaction, it has already garnered early interest from a number of U.S based production companies with an eye on optioning the novel as a full length feature movie.

The unfolding serial revolves around protagonist Peter Dunn, a middle aged reporter for the New York Times who has become a bitter cynic after the repeal of his Pulitzer Prize. Floundering in New York, he is offered a last chance opportunity to return to Asia. The journey back coincides with Buddhist New Year celebrations for much of South-East Asia and the world soon learns that the 'Free Burmese Union' has chosen this time to launch a surprise uprising against the country's military junta.
Rebels seize the properties of multinational companies invested there while the Burmese born former head of the U.N. leads last ditch peace negotiations in an effort to head off more violence. But with the corporations standing to lose billions of dollars, a dark plan is set into motion to hand Burma back to its military masters.

Peter heads into Burma to cover the story as it breaks. Along the way he falls in with Zau Tu, the charismatic leader of an ethnic Kachin rebel faction and together they uncover the sinister plot.

To redeem himself for past sins Peter must make a starkly painful choice between those he holds most dear and the fate of the country which threatens to slip back into brutal repression.
