The International Journal of Educational Science and Research recently featured a paper authored by Dr. Arbind Sinha, Professor- Social & Development Communications at MICA, on 'ICT and Education: A Study of Changing Dynamics in India'.

India is a unique case that presents coexistence of diversities: both the ancient as well as the modern technology exist in this country side by side. There are centers of excellence where all modern technologies of the world exist and are on par with international standards and on the other hand, 10 miles away, you might find an educational centre struggling with the black board method, looking for ICT to arrive.
The research represents students pursuing management, college and higher secondary school students and accounts for the perception they have about the changes brought about in the student - teacher relationship due to the use of internet and mobile technology. The paper presents an analytic account of impact of Information and Communication Technologies vis-à-vis the traditional teaching and learning method adopted for learning. It examines if the ICT has affected the student teacher dynamics, if the respect for teachers are getting eroded in otherwise traditional Indian society and whether the distance between a student and teacher has widened. It also throws light on the changing scene of the students' spending time in library and consulting the teachers for counseling.
Most students across the segments preferred the human element in teaching, especially conceptual learning, and were of the opinion that electronic media is a good supplement to elaborate on the information imparted. The paper stresses the need for educators to look at ICT as resource rather than threat and incorporate it in their knowledge pool to create holistic, relevant and interesting learning experiences for students.
