Miami's 1450 Brickell Office Tower Wins Big At The South Florida U.s. Green Building Council's 2011 Galaverde Awards
Rilea Group's LEED-Gold certified building was recognized as 'Most Outstanding LEED CS Project' at the organization's green awards program.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) October 05, 2011 - 1450 Brickell office tower, the premier class A office building in Downtown Miami's Brickell Financial District, was recognized as "Most Outstanding LEED CS Project" in the category of core and shell by the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) South Florida Chapter. The announcement was made at the 2011 GalaVerde Awards ceremony, the organization's annual LEEDership and Green Awards Program, which was held on August 27 at the Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. The LEED Green Building Rating System is the national benchmark for evaluating the design, construction, and operation of environmentally-sound buildings.
Executive Diego Ojeda accepted the award on behalf of 1450 Brickell developer Rilea Group. "1450 Brickell's distinction as 'Most Outstanding LEED CS Project' is a reflection of our firm's commitment to environmentally-sound design and construction. The green-building movement isn't the future - it's the present. And those who choose not to embrace it will get left behind," said Ojeda.
In recent years, 1450 Brickell has set the standard for sustainable design and construction of new commercial office buildings in Miami as the first newly-built office tower to achieve LEED-Gold status when it earned its certification in 2010. The 35-story office building features a range of efficient strategies and technologies that enhance the health and productivity of its tenants while reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability, including: a UV-blocking curtain wall window system fabricated entirely of large-missile impact glass, AC/heat sensors that manage electricity consumption in over 6,000 places throughout the building, low-flow water fixtures and preferred parking spaces allocated for low-emission vehicles.
At the event, the Honorable Manny Diaz, former Mayor of the City of Miami and longstanding advocate of sustainability and green building, served as keynote speaker of the evening. During his speech, Diaz acknowledged Rilea Group CEO Alan Ojeda's commitment to green building. "Local developer Alan Ojeda understands the benefits that green construction has on his bottom-line. He gets it and is committed to doing what he can to save the planet," said Diaz.
Each year, the USGBC South Florida's GalaVerde Awards honor those outstanding projects, inspirational businesses, dedicated individuals, and instrumental Chapter members who are "LEEDing" the way to a more sustainably built environment in the South Florida community. The South Florida chapter, which encompasses eight counties, now counts 109 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified projects in the region.
