(1888PressRelease) January 16, 2010 - Meyer Media LLC announces its latest release by artist Dr. Kristen Stoner "Images for Solo Flute" (MM09006). Available as CD and down load, this collection beautifully represents Kristen's flawless performance technique. Leaning toward contemporary compositions, many composers are of Latin decent, a style of which Ms. Stoner is internationally recognized. Her specializations include music by women composers and by Latin American composers, and she has presented many lecture-recitals on these topics at national and international conferences. Her doctoral thesis on flute music of Brazil won the National Flute Association Thesis and Dissertation Competition in 2002.

Each work on this disc is unique, yet there are important aspects that unite the various compositions. All of the works presented here are programmatic in some way, either overtly representing a story or scene, or taking influences from a specific culture or tradition in a more general way. Another crucial trait is that each work explores a different color, timbre, and expressive capability of the solo flute. From simple joy to pained anguish, playfulness to solemn introspection, unrequited love to soulful passion… through these compositions the solo flute is able to express an incredible variety of human emotion. All of these works were composed in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, after the development of the modern flute - an instrument capable of technical and expressive feats never imagined by composers of earlier periods.
