Met Office To Discuss Big Data Assisted Big Freeze Predictions
With last week's news announcement that the Met Office are now better placed to predict 'big freezes' it has been confirmed that their Head of Technology, Charles Ewen will be speaking at the upcoming Big Data World Congress - www.bigdatacongress.com - taking place at 76 Portland Place, London on the 7th November.
- (1888PressRelease) September 22, 2012 - The event will address the latest trends and technologies related to the rise of Big Data across the enterprise, and will offer attendees the opportunity to collaborate with peers as well as learn from industry case studies.
Charles Ewens presentation will look at how Big Data solutions have assisted the Met Office with a number of key initiatives. In particular, the talk will focus on the Weather Observations Website (WOW) which allows amateur meteorologists to share information about changing weather conditions via social networking sites.
The keynote presentation will also focus on how Big Data and Real-time analytics tools have helped improve the Numerical Weather Prediction models employed by the Met Office. Scientists at the research agency are now able to make forecasting predictions up to six months in advance.
