- Cleveland, TN (1888PressRelease) May 21, 2011 - Founded in 1983 by Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries has grown into an internationally respected program with homes all over the world including Canada, New Zealand, and the newly renovated home in the United Kingdom.
During her five years working at a correctional facility for juvenile delinquent girls, Nancy Alcorn developed a passion to impact the lives of hurting young women. Time and time again, Nancy Alcorn watched as the young women she worked with at the juvenile facility passed the age of eighteen and ended up in the women's prison system. During the next three years, as Nancy Alcorn investigated child abuse cases, she saw firsthand why so many of these young women were angry and hurting. It was during this time that Nancy Alcorn realized that these programs were not producing permanent results that exemplified changed lives. Nancy Alcorn knew that only God could bring true healing and restoration to hurting young women.
Nancy Alcorn moved to Monroe, Louisiana and opened the first Mercy Ministries home in 1983. Since then, Nancy Alcorn has had the privilege of seeing God raise up three more homes in the United States. Mercy Ministries has homes in St. Louis, Missouri; Sacramento, California; Nashville, Tennessee, Nancy Alcorn's home base.
In 1999, Pastor Paul Scanlon from Abundant Life Church in Bradford, UK, met Nancy Alcorn. When he heard about what Nancy Alcorn and Mercy Ministries were doing to help hurting young women have their lives transformed and hope restored, he wanted to get involved. Pastor Paul Scanlon knew the UK had a great need for a program like Mercy Ministries, and made the commitment to see Nancy Alcorn's vision spread to include a home in the UK.
In September 2006 Nancy Alcorn saw the opening of the UK home, providing 12 beds for hurting young women dealing with life-controlling issues. In order to help even more hurting young women across Europe, renovations to extend the property to 22 beds began in 2010. The remodel is now complete and Nancy Alcorn will celebrate the Grand Re-Opening in a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2:30 PM.
Nancy Alcorn will also be speaking at the Sunday services at Abundant Life Church on May 22, 2011. Please join us and hear Nancy Alcorn's amazing story. Go to http://www.alm.org.uk/ for times and locations.
About Nancy Alcorn
Nancy Alcorn found her calling in 1983 when she founded Mercy Ministries of America. Nancy Alcorn felt that God had prepared a path for her as she spent 8 years working for the state of Tennessee at a correctional facility for juvenile delinquent girls and investigating child abuse cases. Though Nancy Alcorn saw many girls pass through the system and end up in prison, Nancy Alcorn felt these girls never got the real help they needed. Through these experiences, Nancy Alcorn realized that a real transformation could occur only through Jesus. As Founder and President of Mercy Ministries, Nancy Alcorn has seen this ministry grow to become an international organization.
