However; no one can ever really predict illness and Mental Health illnesses are no different.
Vanessa explained, “I started planning this project in January of this year. COVID has delayed some of the exciting things I had planned like my documentary. So I have used the time in lock down to set up the bones of the service. COVID has had a huge impact on community mental health and an already stressed system. It’s really hard to ask for help, as the stigma behind mental health is still very real.”
Vanessa goes on to talk about how she felt ashamed to ask for help and eventually, things spiralled and were beginning to affect her personal and professional relationships.
Dedicating her year of recovery through volunteering her talks and time to services like Greater Manchester Police; Cheshire Police; North West Ambulance services providing a platform for a better understanding of Mental Health in these services.

Vanessa goes on to talk about how, setting up this advocacy and already being able to support people in communities has been a feeling that can not be explained. She goes on to talk about her work with a Hostage charity and how she supported a family, getting the right help to get their loved one released alive.
Vanessa explained “When you get that call from the family to say that their loved one was safe, it is like nothing you can put words on, I get the exact same feeling when someone messages to say that I have helped them with their mental health”
