- (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2013 - Following on the success of its inaugural trip, Medical Missions Kenya and Hunger Relief (MMK) seeks to continue expanding access to adequate health care services in rural, underserved communities of Kenya. The organization's second medical mission will take place May 27 - June 12, 2013.
In December 2011, MMK's first group of 12 volunteer doctors and nurses traveled to two underserved regions of Kenya, where they provided residents with access to basic health care services. The volunteers whole heartedly embraced the mission and treated over 1,200 Kenyans during a two week period. In addition to basic diagnosis and treatment, volunteers offered patients wellness training and tips on incorporating healthy habits into everyday life.
Millicent Manyore, MMK founder, hopes to build on the first trip's momentum and further expand on the organization's ability to reach impoverished communities in Kenya. "I cannot wait to go back to Kenya and see the Samburu Nomadic people again. I am eager to discover what MMK can achieve this year. Slowly, with our efforts, we can expand access to healthcare for all Kenyans."
Manyore urges doctors and nurses to consider volunteering their time for the upcoming medical mission June 2013. Doctors and nurses interested in making a difference and serving under-served locales can find more information and an application form on the MMK website at http://medicalmissionskenya.org/site/volunteer/.
