- (1888PressRelease) March 08, 2011 - Westcoast Medicann Society has opened in Vancouver on Broadway and Cambie St. Two blocks from Vancouver General Hospital, in the center of the medical practictioners area, right next door The Canadian Cancer Society and half a block from the SkyTrain, this location could not be better to service its clients that require medicinal marijuana.
"Westcoast Medicann is for legitimate medical marijuana patients only," said Westcoast Medicann representative Josh Miller. "We require a written statement of diagnosis and a doctor's letter before we can accept a new client."
"We are here to provide safe access to high quality medical marijuana patients in Vancouver. There's a lot of need for patients in the west side. Many of our members do not want or are unable to travel downtown." said Josh.
There are already five other medical marijuana Dispensaries in Vancouver. The largest is the BC Compassion Club Society, which has over 5000 clients and has been operating legitametly for over 11 years.
Westcoast Medicann supply offers more than just cannabis. The business offers a number of edible items that contain all the same active chemicals, THC, CDB, CBN. "We sell cookies, caramels, brownies, muffins and peanut butter. For our customers who don't want to smoke or eat the marijuana, we are working on getting a shea butter lotion that patients can rub on the parts of their bodies that hurt." Josh said.
Growing support from doctors and the government, in Canada and the USA, has been growing rapidly, bringing a regulated and taxed industry closer to a reality.
The American College of Physicians (ACP), the second-largest doctors group in the U.S.A., is calling for the government to withdraw the prohibited use of medical marijuana in treating patients. The prominent doctors group says there is ample research supporting cannabis and its medical applications and it is valuable in treating severe weight loss in AIDS patients, and the nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy in cancer patients.
Medical cannabis has been shown to have established effects in the treatment of nausea, vomiting, premenstrual syndrome, unintentional weight loss, insomnia, and lack of appetite. Other medicinal treatment effects were in the treatment of spasticity, painful conditions, especially neurogenic pain, movement disorders, asthma and glaucoma, to name a few.
