Meals on Wheels of Sarasota Awarded $500 "Share the Love" Grant from Meals On Wheels Association of America
Subaru's "Share the Love" event helps deliver nutritious meals and compassion to Sarasota's seniors as part of national March for Meals Campaign.
- Sarasota-Bradenton, FL (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2014 - Meals on Wheels of Sarasota is proud to announce it has received a $500 grant from the Meals On Wheels Association of America on behalf of Subaru of America, Inc. for its participation in the company's sixth annual "Share the Love" event. For every vehicle sold or leased between November 21, 2013 and January 2, 2014, Subaru donated $250 to the customer's choice of charity. Among the five national choices, the Meals On Wheels Association of America was included for the sixth straight year.
"Because Meals on Wheels of Sarasota receives no government funding we are able to feed seniors as well as anyone else in need in the Sarasota community. With this flexibility comes great responsibility and we rely entirely on support from the community and amazing companies like Sunset Subaru of Sarasota," said Meals on Wheels of Sarasota Executive Director, Terry McGannon. "For so many seniors and others in need our hot meals are their only meal of the day, they depend on us and we depend on grants like this to keep our mission going."
During this year's event, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota partnered with Sunset Subaru of Sarasota during the 2013 holiday season to raise funds and awareness of senior hunger in Sarasota. Meals On Wheels of Sarasota provides meals to people in need, regardless of their ability to pay. While they ask for $4.50 per meal, many clients are unable to pay because of financial, physical or psychological hardships. The $500 grant will allow Meals on Wheels of Sarasota to provide 111 meals to clients in need.
"We are overwhelmed by the support of Subaru customers who generously selected Meals On Wheels as their beneficiary," said Ellie Hollander, Meals On Wheels Association of America President and CEO. As a result, our hardworking programs all around the country can deliver more nutritious meals, safety checks and smiles that serve as a lifeline to America's home-bound seniors."
"This event continues to makes us very proud," said Subaru Chief Marketing Officer, Dean Evans. "Having given nearly $7 million to Meals on Wheels programs over the last six years, Subaru is making a real difference in the lives of seniors in local communities."
This is the first year Meals on Wheels of Sarasota has partnered with Sunset Subaru of Sarasota during the "Share the Love" and received a total of $500. This year's funding will be used to cover the costs of meals for those clients who are unable to make a financial contribution.
