Me Construction Sponsors Employee Stock Car Racing Driver

Top Quote Russell Aplin, a Project Manager for the London-based specialist refurbishment contractor, ME Construction, spends his professional life being concerned about such things as conservation and healthcare construction issues but he spends his spare time racing stock cars - and his dedication, enthusiasm and burgeoning success as a driver has won him some sponsorship from his employer. • (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2013 - Steadily rising up the World Championship rankings - and currently placed 127th - Russell only began taking part in BriSCA F2 stock car racing this season but has been racing, building and maintaining stock cars for most of his adult life.

"BriSCA F2 Stock Car racing is the biggest single-seat motorsport in Europe," said Russell. "There are over 600 registered drivers, racing in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Holland and Belgium.

"Racing on either tarmac or shale, there are, usually, between 25 and 40 cars in each race. Contact between the cars is encouraged - with pushing and barging a key way to pass opponents.

"Cars weigh in at 650kg and are powered by a 2.1-litre Ford Pinto engine producing around 190 bhp - producing the same power to weight ratio as a new BMW M3," he said. "Of course, having the ME Construction logo on the side of my car won't necessarily make it go faster - but the company's sponsorship should help me make some improvements to the car to help me rise further up the world rankings."

ME Construction's Business Development Director, Paul Driver, commented: "As specialists in the construction industry - working particularly in refurbishment - we encourage our employees to devote all their expertise and energies to the job in hand, so it's good to see Russell applying the same diligence and commitment to his spare time activities.

"Prior to making his debut in the World Championships this season, Russell had spent nearly a year funding his racing activities and spending his spare time building the car - and we recognised and wanted to reward this dedication.

"As a company which is only six years old and yet is in the current Fast Track 100 list of the fastest growing privately-held companies in Britain, in terms of sales, we know about building a successful reputation on dedication, diligence, knowledge, skills, a professional approach and a 'can do' attitude.

"So we're encouraging Russell in his maiden season in World Championship stock car racing world - as well as in his work for ME Construction," Paul said. "And we're delighted to be able to help him with some sponsorship as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities."

About BriSCA F2 Stock Car racing
BriSCA F2 Stock Car racing is the biggest single seater motorsport in Europe, there are over 600 registered drivers racing in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Holland and Belgium. Races are held on quarter-mile oval tracks, on either tarmac or shale. The number of drivers per race is usually between 25 and 40 cars. Contact is not only allowed but encouraged, with drivers pushing and barging opponents from the racing line in order to pass.

A modern BriSCA F2 is a purpose-built race car with a front engine, rear-wheel drive configuration, and open-wheeled with the driver located centrally behind the engine, with the drive train passing through the legs. Cars are powered by a 2.1-litre Ford Pinto engine producing around 190 bhp. The cars weigh in at 650kg, meaning that an F2 stock car boasts the same power to weight ratio as a new BMW M3. The cars are extremely strong and are designed with the contact element in mind, with front and rear bumpers and a roll cage.

Each driver is graded according to his or her past results, with their roofs painted according to their current form: red aerofoils with amber flashing lights are known as 'superstar' grade drivers; then red, blue, yellow and white. The lowest grade drivers (white) start each race at the front of the field, while superstar drivers start each race from the rear of the field.
