  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) September 22, 2012 - Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) has been working with Close Up Productions (CUP) to interview people on video about their memories of Miami Beach. The interviews tell the story of Miami Beach's history in a new and fascinating way. With funding from the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA), MDPL and CUP were able to interview thirty (30) people for the documentary. Private donations allowed for ten (10) additional interviews.

The interviews were edited and combined to create a personal and diverse documentary of Miami Beach's history. The documentary along with informational panels, historical artifacts and other items collected from the interviewees will come together in a visually pleasing and educational exhibit. The exhibit will be free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on display at the Art Deco Welcome Center (1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach) from October 15th through November 20, 2012. The exhibit will be open 10am - 4:30pm daily.

"We lived in paradise…and we didn't even know it!" This phrase is common among many who grew up in Miami Beach in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. While for others it was a gated paradise that they were denied entrance to. Miami Beach has been many things to many people over its nearly 100-year history. The Visual Memoirs Project's goal was to capture the different lives and stories of the people that grew up, lived and worked in Miami Beach. The story of any place is always best told by its people. History is made up of the stories of the people who lived it. The Miami Beach Visual Memoirs Project recorded these personal stories of our City's past to help inform our future. The interviews cover many facets of Miami Beach's social, cultural, and economic development. Now these recordings will be available to all who are interested in knowing where we come from.

MDPL, CUP, and MBVCA hope you will experience the Visual Memoirs Exhibit at the Art Deco Welcome Center. There is a special interactive component of the exhibit that will allow guests to leave their memories of Miami Beach and become part of the exhibit.
