McDonald Volvo, Colorado Volvo Dealer, Celebrates Volvo Corporation Initiative To Go Green With 4-Cylinder Engines and Smart Electrification

- Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) November 26, 2011 - Volvo Corporation is already in the lead among European carmakers when it comes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions as shown in the annual analysis presented by the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E). The brand outperformed Europe's eight largest manufacturers in 2010 by cutting overall CO2 emissions with no less than 9 percent.
"This excellent result is the outcome of a dedicated environmental focus under our 'DRIVe Towards Zero' banner. One third of our research budgets is earmarked for reducing CO2 emissions. Our new, upcoming engine range will ensure that we continue to beat our toughest competitors when it comes to fuel economy," said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of the Volvo Car Corporation.
The Volvo new engine range, VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture), focuses only on four-cylinder engines which will benefit from enhanced performance through electrification or other spearhead technology in certain configurations, such as a kinetic flywheel drive.
VEA includes a wide range of direct-injected gasoline engines as well as common rail diesels that improve fuel economy by up to 35%. Certain Volvo engines will gain added performance through the hybrid drive or other innovative Volvo technology.
Volvo's leadership within smart electrification also includes the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, which will be first released to European markets in fall of 2012. It is the world's first diesel-powered plug-in hybrid which will give new Volvo owners an electric range of 30 miles and over 120 miles per U.S. gallon when the vehicle is in hybrid mode.
There have already been some limited deliveries Deliveries of the Volvo C30 Electric in 2011 and this car has an all-electric range of up to 95 miles.
