MC ZULU Thrives On Outlaw Reggae Status, Announces New EP & Tour Dates
Independent Reggae Artist MC ZULU Has Socially Networked His Way Into A Global Presence Despite Being Largely Shunned By Status Quo.
- (1888PressRelease) February 04, 2011 - Reggae from the outer reaches of space... Clipped phrases, stopping mid-sentence like a flicking typewriter's carriage..." These are the accolades to which MC Zulu has grown accustomed. Preferring to embrace the lyrical influences of American Beat Poets, while maintaining an aggressive Dancehall delivery, Zulu was initially met with scrutiny. He pressed ahead releasing albums independently and attending to a small, but loyal fan base. The resulting output earned him fervent rejections from mainstream DJs and record labels alike. Undaunted he placed the A cappella versions on his website as free downloads. That was a turning point.
Independent producers from every corner of the earth responded, eventually making MC Zulu a worldwide, underground favorite. Now his unholy Reggae-hybrid vocals could be heard over almost all Global Dance Music genres, and with artists from all hemispheres. Even better he found himself able to travel to various regions, where producers had used his vocals to craft certified local hits. Curiously enough his appearance on Montreal producer Poirier's "Running High" LP places him on a Juno (Canadian Music Award) nominated album.
In what may be his most ambitious project yet, Zulu combines the tracks from producers around the world into a multi-release effort, entitled Crowd Control. The first release will be the "Mad Crowd" EP, with a full-length album to follow. The title track is produced by Sean "Bumps" Casey, and has already received favorable press from XLR8R magazine. Reggae-Electro production squad South Rakkas Crew also makes a noted appearance. The Crowd Control project will be released on Zulu's Perception2020 imprint, with Manatee Records' Doc Flowers as an executive producer.
