Mayor Riley H. Rogers Coat Drive - Share the Warmth with Dolton's Children in Need
Mayor Riley H. Rogers invites the residents of Dolton, Illinois, to join him in working to make it a warmer winter for those in need.
- Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) January 04, 2014 - The U.S. Census bureau indicates that one American child in five lives in poverty. Often, parents and other adults must choose between household expenses and warm coats for their children or themselves. Without proper protection from the cold, children stay home from school. As more and more children and adults experience economic challenges, the need for warm coats grows.
On Saturday, Jan 4, 2014, Mayor Rogers will be distributing 300 children's winter coats in the sizes of 3T to youth size 12/14 to the Village of Dolton. This will take place at the Dorchester, 1515 E. 154th Street, Dolton, Illinois from 12noon until 3pm. Distribution will be done on a first come, first served basis.
"Given these challenging economic times, there are many without the means to purchase a warm coat for their children," says Mayor Rogers. "This year's winter season has been extremely cold and the coat drive offers a rewarding way for all of us to come together as a community and contribute to the health and well-being of our neighbors. A new winter coat might seem like such a small thing, but to someone who does not have a coat, it equates to more than just warmth," concludes Mayor Rogers.
