The event is to be held in New Delhi, India on 11th - 15th September, 2012. This Congress is being sponsored by IFSO-Asia Pacific Chapter (IFSO-APC), the Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Society (APMBSS) and the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of India (OSSI) and organized by Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, India.
The major objective of this Congress is to increase the awareness about the obesity related disorders which are due to life style changes. Over the past few years, there have been significant rise in the number of cases related to Obesity, Type II Diabetes Mellitus and Metabolic Syndrome, which has created the urgent need to define the parameters for Metabolic and Bariatric surgery. Among various options, Bariatric surgery is considered to be the right management option that provides significant and sustained weight loss in morbidly obese patients.
According to Congress President, Dr. Pradeep Chowbey, "A rapidly growing economy in the Asian subcontinent has led to growing affluence and major life-style changes. With the dramatic rise in the incidence of Obesity, Type II Diabetes Mellitus and Metabolic Syndrome, there is an urgent need to define the parameters for Metabolic and Bariatric surgery in this population.
"IFSO has been primarily a scientific organization, bringing together bariatric surgeons and allied health professionals, such as nurse practitioners, dieticians, nutritionists, psychologists, internists and anesthesiologists, engaged in the treatment of morbidly obese patients, but in the next few years, IFSO will maintain and extend its role in the challenge of bariatric surgery.
