Singer Matthew Najar has been on the music scene for just two years having released three singles worldwide through iTunes, MySpace Music stores, Virgin Music, Amazon and Walmart Music. The rate of music released by Matthew's label is notoriously slow-paced; his first single 'I Like The Way You Are' received mixed reviews, critics often complaining of the poor production quality.'Amnesia' was his next single (and still available); Amnesia has received generally positive reviews and has been featured on numerous YouTube user accounts, Facebook and MySpace - you could say viral marketing is working wonders with this single.
Now, to follow up on the underground successes of 'Amnesia' Matthew Najar has released a new single: 'REACTION'. Reaction, while still fresh on the music scene, hasn't picked up media or fan attention quite like 'Amnesia' did before it. It would be premature to say Reaction isn't going to sell well, but it seems that way as of late.
The production of Reaction is mediocre with the backing track leaving much to be desired, it feels unfinished. Not to say it's unlistenable, that would be wrong, it is fine to listen to, but the production doesn't stack up against Amnesia in terms of quality. In terms of musical performance, however, it surpasses Amnesia by a mile. It has a more organic, rough feel to the music, the beat is medium-paced and basic, but fresh. Being hailed as a 'fresh start', Reaction's sonical imprint is promising.
The vocal work on Reaction is also better, more daring, than that featured on his earlier works with higher notes hit and lower notes maintained. At times you get the sense that this young singer is losing his voice, it feels like he is struggling, but before you can pass judgement the vocal tracks just blend together and settle into a rhythmic and powerful motion. There was rumor that Matthew was losing the power in his voice, due to health reasons. You at points in Reaction do get a sense that there is truth to this rumor, but overall the quality of the vocal track is a solid 4/5.
Musically Reaction is interesting, unique, in regards to production quality it isn't the best but certainly worth a listen. Vocals are performed second to none for the majority of the single and I believe that Reaction will develop it's own underground following in no time. Is it worth it's single price? Definitely.
