Matrix New World Engineering Remediation Expert to Present at International Symposium on Bioremediation and Sustainable Environmental Technologies
Dr. Laurie LaPat-Polasko to showcase broad base of topics at fifth annual conference.
- Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) March 27, 2019 - Dr. Laurie LaPat-Polasko, Vice President and National Director of Remediation, Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) will present at the Fifth International Symposium on Bioremediation and Sustainable Environmental Technologies. The conference will be held at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD, April 15-18, 2019. Dr. LaPat-Polasko, will present and co-chair at multiple events during this forum.
Dr. LaPat-Polasko will also present on ‘What Are the Key Data Needs to Demonstrate Effective In Situ Bioremediation of Chlorinated Solvents?’ written by Dr. LaPat-Polasko and Georgia Waters, principal hydrogeologist with Matrix.
Dr. LaPat-Polasko and Harry Brenton, who is a principal hydrogeologist from Matrix, are also co-authors on the platform talk ‘Abiotic/Biotic Reduction of TCE and Perchlorate: Laboratory Treatability Study for a Superfund Site’, which will be presented by Dr. Anca Delgado, Assistant Professor, Environmental Biotechnology at Arizona State University (ASU).
Finally, Dr. LaPat-Polasko will present a scientific poster on ‘In Situ Bioremediation of the Source Zone for Chlorinated Solvents in Groundwater: Successes and Challenges’ based on research compiled by Dr. LaPat-Polasko and Linda Conlan, P.G., Principal Geologist at Wood, Laguna Beach, CA.
The Bioremediation Symposium, organized and presented by Battelle, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a forum for sharing research results, practical experiences, and opportunities associated with advances in bioremediation and green and sustainable practices in remediation. Battelle is a major force in science and technology discovery and in the translation of knowledge into innovative applications that have significant societal and economic impacts.
According to Jayne Warne, President, “We are thrilled to have Matrix integrally involved in this prestigious symposium and happy to be represented so thoroughly by Laurie who will share her vast expertise with the attendees.”
Known throughout the U.S. and worldwide for her work developing innovative solutions to address water and soil contamination issues, Dr. LaPat-Polasko has a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, a M.S. and Engineers Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Biology from Chatham University. She studied a wide variety of microbes around the world, combining her knowledge of biology, environmental engineering, and microbiology to develop and design innovative “bioremediation” approaches to clean up contaminated sites, creating a green, cost-effective method to degrade diverse contaminants, such as chlorinated solvents, explosives, fuel compounds, and emerging contaminants. Dr. LaPat-Polasko used qPCR to determine the source of a Naegleria fowleri impact in a drinking water source in the Phoenix, AZ area. Her 27 years of experience as a technical consultant, project manager, and chief science officer for efforts involving groundwater and soil remediation and wastewater treatment combined with her knowledge of microbiology and civil engineering, result in cost-effective remediation solutions for surface water, groundwater, soil, and sediments impacted by organic and inorganic compounds. In 2018, she received the GOLD International Stevie Award for Women in Business, Woman of the Year – Technology, and was selected as Outstanding Business Woman of the Year – 2018 by the Phoenix Business Journal for her community leadership, professional accomplishments, and personal achievements.
