Material Handling Company Chief Executive Receives Patriotic Employer Award
Hänel Storage Systems in Pittsburgh, PA, USA has received a Patriotic Employer Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, for the exceptional support of a employee serving in the Air National Guard.
- (1888PressRelease) June 22, 2017 - Hänel Storage Systems, a leader in the manufacture and integration of automated vertical storage units, announced that its Chief Executive, Brian Cohen, has been recognized by the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The Patriotic Employer Award is a means of distinguishing employers who support their National Guard and Reserve employees.
Cohen earned the award based on Hänel’s efforts to support one of its employees, Chris Farnsworth of Clayton, NC, through measures such as flexible schedules, leaves of absence and time off prior to and after military deployment.
Farnsworth is one of Hänel’s Regional Service Technicians, maintaining the company’s equipment in the Southeastern United States, and nominated Cohen for the award. He has been with the organization since August 2014, and is also a Master Sergeant E-7 in the North Carolina Air National Guard. Farnsworth served in active duty from January 12, 2016 to July 29, 2016 as a member of the 449th Air Expeditionary Group, Rescue Operations Center at Camp Lemmonier in the nation of Djibouti in eastern Africa, and is normally stationed with the 263rd Combat Communications Squadron at Stanly County Airport in Albemarle, NC.
During his deployment, Farnsworth’s fellow service technicians and regional service managers absorbed his workload, and he felt Hänel went well beyond the Uniformed Service Employment and reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) requirements. “While I may receive the attention for deploying, it was my family members and coworkers who filled the void and deserve equal, if not more credit for their sacrifices,” Farnsworth said.
This was Farnsworth’s third deployment, following a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq in 2003-04 and a four-month tour in Kuwait in 2011.
“Hänel proudly supports all of our employees, and the company is profoundly honored to support Chris in this manner,” said Cohen. “He is a patriotic individual who leads a life that is a positive example for the rest of our staff.”
About Hänel Storage Systems
Founded in Germany in 1953, Hänel’s North American headquarters has been located in Pittsburgh, PA since it was established in 1984. Hänel Storage Systems specializes in the design and engineering of Rotomat® vertical storage carousels and Lean-Lift® Vertical Lift Modules for a wide range of industries and applications. Hänel provides sales, service and technical support to North and South America through a network of factory-trained channel partners and service providers.
Introduced in 1957, the Rotomat® Vertical Carousel is based on the Ferris Wheel principal. Inventory is stored in a series of carriers that rotate within an enclosed unit and are accessed at a single opening. This vertical “goods to the user” concept improves productivity, lowers costs, increases security and saves valuable floor space.
Introduced in 1994, the Lean-Lift® Vertical Lift Module stores inventory on trays that are automatically measured for height each time they enter the unit. A vertical extractor places each tray within the unit in a location that maximizes available storage space. Trays can be equipped with dividers, totes, bins and specialized holders to store any type of inventory.
