Masters Conference Announces Jason R. Baron, Director of Litigation for the National Archives and Records Administration, as Day 1 Keynote Speaker

Baron, Director of Litigation for the National Archives and Records Administration, will deliver the keynote address on the first day of the annual conference, which is being held at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. on October 8-10, 2012. Baron's speech will be on the topic of "Zen and the Art of E-Discovery: Is It Now Time to Converge on Quality Standards?"
The keynote presentation will cover whether e-Discovery is now a mature enough discipline to support the development of "standards" constituting a code of best practices for e-Discovery service providers and practitioners to follow. A particular focus of the presentation will be on current issues arising out of the da Silva Moore case, and more recent decisions on predictive coding, and the debate over the efficacy of software- or computer-assisted review methods. The speaker will also provide an update on recent initiatives in support of auditing and/or self-certification by e-Discovery service providers, in line with well-known ISO 9001 compliant processes.
Jason R. Baron serves as Director of Litigation for the National Archives and Records Administration, and is an internationally recognized speaker and author on the subject of the preservation of electronic records. He is the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Emmett Leahy Award, recognizing his career contributions in the field of records and information management. Baron previously was a trial attorney and senior counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice, where he acted as lead counsel in landmark litigation involving the preservation of White House email. Baron is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, where he has taught e-Discovery in the graduate College of Information Studies. He is an outside director on the board of directors of ARMA International, immediate past Co-Chair of The Sedona ConferenceŽ Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production, and co-founder of the TREC Legal Track. Among his publications is "Law in the Age of Exabytes: Some Further Thoughts on 'Information Inflation' and Current Issues in E-Discovery Search," published in the Richmond J. of Law and Technology (2011), and available online. He received his degrees from Wesleyan University and the Boston University School of Law.
