Mary’s Center Receives Funding from The Rita S. Metcalfe Foundation to Promote the Child Tax Credit
The new grant will fund a new Child Tax Credit Program Outreach Worker who will support parents in receiving their benefits.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) October 21, 2021 - Today, Mary’s Center announced funding from The Rita S. Metcalfe Foundation to help community members access their Child Tax Credit payments. Foundation Vice President Heidi Metcalfe Lewis of Silver Spring, MD will also provide in-kind support, volunteering her time to amplify these efforts.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of The Rita S. Metcalfe Foundation and the considerable passion Ms. Lewis has for child well-being,” said Maria Gomez, President and CEO of Mary’s Center. “The Child Tax Credit is a significant step toward reducing poverty for families with children, and as a hub of community health, it is our responsibility to ensure each of our eligible families receives the full benefits.”
With the American Rescue Plan increase of the Child Tax Credit in 2021, more Mary’s Center families have become eligible to receive this subsidy. However, many participants still struggle to sign up to receive the funds. The new grant will fund a new Child Tax Credit Program Outreach Worker who will support parents in receiving their benefits. This new position will reach out to Mary’s Center participants to help them navigate the signup process, answer questions, and troubleshoot any issues.
In addition to this generous gift, Ms. Lewis’s volunteer support will help increase the number of families registered to receive Child Tax Credit payments through the rest of the 2021 fiscal year.
