- (1888PressRelease) January 06, 2012 - Martin Fluck, Country Manager of Oakwood Asia Pacific for Japan, was awarded "General Manager of The Year 2011" by its regional headquarters, Oakwood Asia Pacific, in a gala dinner attended by its top corporate and property executives in Singapore.
Fluck received the trophy from Oakwood Worldwide's Senior Vice-President and Chief Development Officer Matt Hagler and Oakwood Asia Pacific's Vice President, Operations, Peter Lucas, who commended Fluck's remarkable leadership that enabled all of Oakwood's seven properties in Tokyo, their residents and employees to emerge unscathed in spite of the natural disasters that affected the entire country.
Fluck directed all efforts to keep operations running smoothly and stayed on-site throughout. His commitment and effective handling of the incident garnered admiration from residents and clients whose patronage increased and restored occupancy levels for the properties in just a few months. He has also since spearheaded Oakwood's involvement in various related humanitarian efforts, further enhancing Oakwood's reputation in Tokyo and reaffirming its status as the most trusted name in serviced apartments worldwide.
Fluck says, "I am honored to accept this award which I share with all our extraordinary associates who played a major role in overcoming the challenges of the situation. We worked effectively as a team which allowed us to coordinate all our actions in an organized manner, thereby assuring our residents of their safety and security in those times of uncertainty."
Fluck also acknowledges the executives of Oakwood Asia Pacific and its parent company based in the United States, Oakwood Worldwide for their constant concern and support throughout the series of events that caught the whole world by surprise.
This is the second time that Fluck has been accorded the prestigious award since he joined the company. In 2005, he took his first "General Manager of the Year" award for his exceptional performance in managing Oakwood Residence Aoyama, Oakwood Residence Akasaka, Oakwood Apartments Shirokane and Oakwood Apartments Roppongi Central. He was promoted to Country Manager of Japan the following year, in-charge of Oakwood Premier Tokyo Midtown, Oakwood Residence Azabujyuban and Oakwood Residence Roppongi T-Cube - all of which he handles up to the present. He was also recipient of the "Make it Happen" award in 2002 for opening two properties back-to-back given only two months of preparation, fulfilling the main criterion of achieving success under extremely tight deadlines.
Fluck was born in Japan but is a Swiss national who earned his diploma from the Hotel Management School Lausanne in Switzerland. Asia has been his home since 1985, working with prestigious international hotel chains such as Hyatt (Tokyo), Hilton (Tokyo and Nagoya), and Four Seasons (Bali), as well as luxury and boutique hotels and serviced apartments in Vietnam prior to joining Oakwood Asia Pacific in 2001.
