It may be difficult to tell at his point, but he is an innovative media business leader, artist, author, producer, and a well-recognized name in the music and media industry. His name is Mark S. Berry.

    Adamant about his love of music production, Mark started his own company, The Attack Media Group (AMG) in 1998. AMG is a fully independent media company with an international mandate for signing and promoting emerging artists, publishing assets and film & DVD streaming content. Attack's music publishing division is half-owned by Cherry Lane Music in NYC with catalogues that include, (Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Elvis Presley, John Denver, "The Passion of the Christ") and its music has been placed on several major Hollywood productions and soundtracks including "The Making of Matrix Reloaded," "Coach Carter,", "Urban Legend", "Gang Tapes" "Harvard Man" and many more along with major television programs such as "Dawson's Creek," "Roswell," "Americas Most Wanted" and multiple insertions in various MTV programming.     Born in New England and raised in New York, Mark's music career began at the Institute of Audio Research (IAR) in New York City. Rather than opt for the typical after-school job of peddling fast food, the seventeen year-old would commute to Manhattan at night where he made records for emerging basement bands. It was good practical experience that served to round out his education. Upon graduating, the kid from Brooklyn was intrigued by the British Beat, and found employment at Sir George Martin's AIR Studios in Oxford Circus, London, England where he worked for over 2 years. Like most young music industry executives, he began by fetching coffee and emptying ashtrays. However, by diligently paying attention, Mark gleaned valuable experience production techniques that would serve him well later on.

    A concentrated effort to learn about music production enabled Mark to collaborate with several renowned British rock engineers/producers, such as Chris Thomas (Elton John, The Pretenders, Pink Floyd, INXS), John Punter (Japan), Bill Price (Sex Pistols), Alan Harris (Mott The Hoople, T-Rex) and Sir George Martin (The Beatles). Under such tutelage, Mark contributed to projects that were reshaping the face of the rock industry: Roll Over Beethoven by the Electric Light Orchestra, Procol Harem's Grand Hotel, and Live - Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple and "Live and Let Die" soundtrack by Paul McCartney & Wings. Another perk was the opportunity to socialize with rock icons. While working on Carly Simon's No Secrets album, an 18 year-old Mark got to hang out with Mick Jagger, who was tracking background vocals for the world-wide smash hit "You're so Vain" and would become his very first engineering credit.

    With a few hard-earned credits to his name, Mark returned to the U.S. in the mid 1970s. He freelanced for some of the top recording studios in New York ie: Record Plant, Hit Factory & Jimi Hendrix's Electric LadyLand before being offered the position of Staff Engineer and in-house A&R Producer for Vanguard Records. After Eleven years with Vanguard, he moved into the area of dance and rock remixing. Mark's edgy engineering and mixing techniques significantly contributed to the success of multi-platinum artists such as David Bowie, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Kool & The Gang, Yes, Cameo, Toto, and Boy George. Mark was also introduced to Michael Gudinski, the president of Mushroom Records & Frontier Touring, Australia's largest independent record label and concert promotion firm where he went on to produce several multi-platinum albums released by the label garnering 7 top 10 singles in that country alone.

    In 1991, Mark relocated to Toronto. That same year, he worked with the band Glass Tiger (Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone) and produced the album Get Off for multi-platinum band Haywire. Mark also discovered alternative rock band I Mother Earth, and orchestrated the group's massive signing success with EMI through the 5-song master he created at Metalworks Studios. This success was followed by more award-winning productions for artists like Hugh Dillion (Flashpoint television program, The Headstones) and Burton Cummings (Guess Who). Finally, Pierre Paradis, the mega-Canadian rock manager, solicited Mark's services to produce Voivod. The resulting Outer Limits (MCA/Universal) album features the 17-minute opus "Jack Luminous," arguably remains one of his most compelling critically acclaimed productions.

    Mark is currently attending an undergraduate program specializing in cinema studies at Innis College, University of Toronto, which will assist toward his goal of feature length film and television production. His dedication to remain one step ahead of the pack validates all of the success he has enjoyed. His first book, Risking Nothing Would be Way too Risky for Me, is due for release in the Summer of 2014. The book offers some insight about production, engineering, mixing as well as becoming an entrepreneur in this rapidly evolving world of music & media.

    Pragmatic, charismatic, opinionated, and sometimes controversial, Mark Berry lectures internationally about his role as the Chairman of a fledgling media company. He is a requested speaker at some of the world's most distinguished & prestigious music conferences including this year's MIDEM '13 Conference in Cannes, France and Music Industry China (MIC) held in Taipei, Taiwan.
