Mark stated that open social media is important because users own their data. Having a single vendor (like Facebook) who controls all the data is not healthy.
He said that an Open mesh is a decentralized model which allows for a distributed architecture. The mesh metaphor means that ANYONE (software vendor, content publisher, government agency, mainstream brand) can connect into the mesh.
