Marinas on Big Bear Lake Open for 2014 Season
Despite crazy weather conditions, marinas on Big Bear Lake are open for business. Captain John's Fawn Harbor & Marina opens early and launches new lake services and classes for 2014.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) April 02, 2014 - Wacky weather has impacted the nation but in Big Bear Lake, California the marinas have opened for the 2014 season as projected. Known mostly for winter and summer activities, the popular resort really does offer four seasons of fun.
Serena Saunders, marina manager at Captain John's Fawn Harbor & Marina (North Shore) and Captain John's Marina Big Bear (South Shore) said, "Big Bear Lake marinas opened April 1st as expected and the spring and fall the perfect times to get out on the lake because it is beautiful and uncrowded. If you are a fan of fishing and boating, or want to start getting fit for summer, get out on the lake just come prepared for weather changes."
Big Bear Lake is located in the San Bernardino Mountains at an elevation of 6,750 feet and is easily accessible from Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, making it a favorite destination for Southern California residents. Lake levels are lower than last year but this means additional lakeside beach area access and more locations for bird watching.
Popular lake sports include stand-up paddle boarding (SUPing), kayaking and canoeing, lake boat fishing, water skiing, wake boarding and annual events on the lake include a number of fishing tournaments and a paddle fest.
Saunders said, "We enjoy getting people out on the lake and after the paddle fest last year were able to offer a SUP clinic with World Champion Stand Up Paddle Boarder, Annabel Anderson. This year we have some new additions including SUP paddle clinics, SUP fit classes and the Babes on Boards project."
Known simply as BoBs, the Babes on Boards is an opportunity for women to learn from women about how to stand-up paddle board. Once a week women gather for a potluck and take turns learning the sport. Captain John's also now offers a midweek season pass for those whose goal is to get into the SUP sport more frequently.
Although the official lake opening is traditionally April 1st, amazing weather conditions allowed Captain John's North Shore location to open to the public on March 22nd. Kezia Z., a Los Angeles resident said, "We went kayaking/canoeing in the middle of March and we were their first customers since it was just beginning to warm up. They were super friendly and allowed us to have our picnic lunch on their benches and took pictures for us at their dock. They were clear with their instructions but laidback and just overall very cool people."
Big Bear Lake is open seven days a week and is a short scenic drive from Los Angeles and surrounding areas. For more information contact Captain John's Fawn Harbor & Marina at (909) 366-5109 or visit http://FawnHarbor.com.
