- (1888PressRelease) December 14, 2012 - Singapore - For the second year running, Manulife Singapore has pledged its support for Movember, the worldwide phenomenon where men across the world grow a moustache and women support financially and emotionally with the aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men's health issues during the month of November.
This year, besides recruiting Manulife Mo Brothers, who sportingly grew moustaches, Manulife Singapore organised the Manulife Movember Walkathon on 17 November to boost awareness and raise more funds.
Some 450 participants comprising of employees, Financial Planners together with their families & friends, as well as business vendors took part in the Movember Walkathon, in MacRitchie Reservoir Park, joined by celebrity DJ, Rod Monteiro. Event highlights included fun games and a team competition. Registration fees were SGD$10 per person and all proceeds were donated to the Singapore Cancer Society.
This year Manulife Singapore not only created awareness but also supported education efforts on male related cancers. A Movember Health Seminar, Diet & Lifestyle to combat Cancer, was held on 21 November for Manulife clients. Some 250 clients learnt about developing a proper diet and lifestyle to combat cancer from Prof Eu Kong Weng of Pacific Healthcare.
Ms Annette King, President & CEO, Manulife Singapore said: "At Manulife we are proud to be part of this global movement to increase the awareness of male related cancers and health issues. Through Movember, we also want to help raise funds for the Singapore Cancer Society. I am pleased that Manulife staff, Financial Planners and clients have pledged their support for this good cause and have taken the initiative to raise awareness and funds. Together, we can truly change the face of men's health."
Movember President, Mr Greg Rafferty said: "Men often lack awareness about the very real health issues they face and can be reluctant to see a doctor about an illness or to go for regular medical checks. The aim of Movember is to change these attitudes, make male health fun by putting the Mo (moustache) back on the face of fashion and in the process raise some serious awareness for men's health issues. I would like to thank Manulife Singapore for pledging their support for the second year running."
Manulife Singapore has a total of 20 Mo Brothers from senior management, employees and Financial Planners to support the Movember initiatives. Being the top fund raiser for Movember 2011, Matthew Kang, Senior Director for Financial Services, EaglePlanners branch is the team leader for the Manulife Mo Brothers this year.
