- (1888PressRelease) October 14, 2010 - IRIE! dance theatre and the Kon-Kon-Te cultural group are hosting a FREE event for Black History Month called Make History Work on Saturday 16 October 2010 at Moonshot Centre in New Cross, London.
The event will feature special presentations by the founder of the Marsha Phoenix Foundation, Sybil Phoenix, MBE and the Executive Director of the Midi Music Company, Wozzy Brewster, OBE. There will also be a photography exhibition plus workshops based around African and Caribbean games, songs, stories, sayings, dance and rituals.
Make History Work is designed to be an event that individuals of all ages can take part in and the organisers - IRIE! dance theatre and Kon-Kon-Te - are keen to encourage family members to take part in this event as a group. The event is an excellent way for community members as well as family members to interact in a unique setting to share and explore their stories and their history in a fun and engaging manner.
Beverley Glean, IRIE! dance theatre's Artistic Director said:
"We are delighted to partner with Kon-Kon-Te to host this Black History Month event. And we look forward to welcoming individuals of all ages and all nationalities to Moonshot to celebrate the achievements of individuals of African and Caribbean descent.
"It's going to be a fun-filled learning experience - one which we hope will help to instil in individuals greater awareness and pride of the achievements of African and Caribbean people and our role in helping to shape our society."
