- (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2024 - Mumbai, Maharashtra – Eight days have passed since the formation of the Maha Yuti government in Maharashtra under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis. However, the much-awaited cabinet expansion has yet to take place. In a significant political development today, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Parliament House to discuss the ongoing delay and potential resolutions.
The three leaders engaged in extensive and crucial talks in Delhi, signaling a new shift in Maharashtra's power dynamics. Sources suggest that the NCP is pushing for a return of its former portfolios, particularly the Finance Ministry, as part of the cabinet reshuffle. This comes after Fadnavis’ meeting in Delhi on Wednesday evening, where he held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda regarding the distribution of ministries. The meeting is being seen as pivotal in determining the future course of the coalition’s power-sharing arrangement.
A senior BJP leader stated that the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly's winter session is set to begin on December 16, and the state’s new ministers will likely be sworn in before then. A swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place on December 14, where 21 to 22 ministers from the BJP, including the Chief Minister, are likely to take their oath. Additionally, 10 ministers each from the Shinde faction and Ajit Pawar's NCP faction are also anticipated to be inducted into the cabinet.
In the recently concluded Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections, the BJP secured victory in 132 constituencies, the Shinde faction won 57, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction claimed 41 seats. The delay in the cabinet expansion and portfolio allocation has been attributed to the complexities of the coalition, which includes three major parties. Political observers are eagerly awaiting the finalization of the new cabinet lineup and the resolution of key portfolio demands.
The coming days are expected to bring clarity on the cabinet expansion and ministry distribution, which will be crucial for stabilizing the state government and ensuring effective governance.
