- (1888PressRelease) September 08, 2010 - The success story of Shenzhen, bordering on Hong Kong, is an amazing one. In 1979 the small border village had a mere 30,000 inhabitants. Today this number has risen to 8,7 million, mainly because of its geographical position on the banks of the Pearl River and directly adjacent to Hong Kong. After the "Open Door Policy", adopted by People's Republic of China, Shenzhen has become nothing less than an economic miracle.
Shenzhen, which has been awarded the title 'City of Design' by Unesco, has a resident population with an average age of 30, consisting for 95% of immigrants, mainly from other parts of China. Since 1992, the annual average growth of Shenzhen's industries amounted to 48.4%. Shenzhen, also known as the High-Tech City, focuses on three emerging key industries; of New Energy, Bio-Technology and Internet. Over one hundred German companies have found their way to Shenzhen, among them Siemens and Metro.
In the year of the IFA's 50th anniversary, the Berlin The trade show attracts many international players in the consumer electronics branch, among them the fastest growing economic power, China. On the eve of IFA 2010, the Shenzhen Bureau of Trade and Industry has invited stakeholders from the Berlin trade industry for an evening of information exchange and networking.
The host of the evening, Mr. Zhang Yipping, the Director of the Economic and Trade Office in Europe, treated his German guests and officials to a rich buffet, where Chinese dishes and German Riesling went hand in hand. Mr. Gao Guohui, Deputy Secretary General of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and heading the Chinese delegation, showed optimism for the future, and expressed his appreciation for German products. Brands like Audi and Siemens serve as successful examples for the Chinese, because of their good design and high quality. He expressed a wish that more German consumers get to know Chinese products.
Investment in Shenzhen was therefore the main topic of Mr. Peng Xinye, the Deputy Director General of Science, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Commission of Shenzhen Municipality. Shenzhen produces a wide variety of consumer goods, ranging from e-books and blenders to watches and glasses. Shenzhen produced more than 100 million glasses this year, which means that half of the glasses worldwide come from Shenzhen. The external trade volume of the city of Shenzhen has reached over 300 billion US dollar.
The International trade show for information technology IFA has grown 10% - even in last year's crisis year, according to Mrs. Almuth Nehring-Venus, State Secretary for the Berlin Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Technologie und Frauen, addressing the Shenzhen delegation. "The Berlin Senat supports entrepreneurs, and the Chinese market is huge" The State Secretary expressed a personal preference for the emerging markets of 3D technology and the combination of television and Internet.
The trade and industry of Shenzhen can be discovered without having to make the necessary 13 hour trip. The Shenzhen delegation of more than 100 people has come to Berlin and will introduce itself at the IFA 2010, until September 9th.
