Lyon Communities "Adopts An Angel" For Christmas
Teams with the Salvation Army to bring joy, gifts to underprivileged children in Long Beach.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) December 10, 2013 - Lyon Communities, recognized as one of the largest and most respected privately held multi-family real estate companies in California, is partnering with the Salvation Army to bring joy to the less fortunate children through the seventh annual "Adopt Your Angel" program. Gifts will be collected at Lyon communities in Long Beach, California to provide a little joy to our less fortunate children.
"One in six people in America live on less than $105 a week, a budget that does not allow for extra purchases," said Suzanne Maddalon, Executive Vice President of Operations for Lyon Communities. "Christmas should be a time of celebration, joy and hope. The goal of our partnership with the Salvation Army is to not only help the families whose names are placed on the Angel Tree, but also to give our residents an opportunity to experience the joy of giving during the holiday season."
Each Christmas season, children of low-income families are placed on the Angel Tree and members of the community members can "adopt" the children for Christmas and purchase the Christmas gifts they have selected.
Lyon communities in Long Beach will have an Angel Tree, decorated with about 100 angels, located in their lobby or leasing center. Attached to each angel is the name of a child, their age and a gift idea. Participants are asked to bring the unwrapped gift back to the Angel Tree by Tuesday, December 18.
"Being able to provide gifts to underprivileged children at Christmas is truly a most rewarding experience and we are delighted to participate in the program," said Maddalon.
The Salvation Army created the Angel Tree program in 1979 to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas time. The wishes of local children were written on greeting cards featuring pictures of angels and placed on a Christmas tree at the mall. More than 700 children had a brighter Christmas that year, and since that time, the program has grown to include Angel Trees across the nation.
