Lynn Lions Donates $10,000 to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc
Collected with the help of the City of Lynn and surrounding communities, the Lynn Lions has donated $10,000 to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc.
- Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2011 - The Lynn Lions, part of the Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization, has donated $10,000 to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc. Collected with the help of the City of Lynn and surrounding communities, the donation is part of the Lynn Lion's mission is to combat preventable blindness.
"A key part of our mission is to support the blind and visually impaired through research and other programs, which include our Eye Mobile, which provides free non-invasive community-based screening for hypertension, vision loss, eye disease and hearing loss," said Sean Crowley, Lynn Lions Club President. "Donating to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund has been another way to fund research here in Massachusetts that can benefit our communities and the world at large."
Since its founding in 1922, the Lynn Lions Club, along with community support, has donated over $310,000, primarily to organizations that support local and regional causes. The Lynn Lions are one of three Lions clubs serving the City of Lynn, including Shoe City Lions and Wyoma Lions.
Part of District 33N, covering 48 clubs in Lynn and surrounding communities the Lynn Lions have been the front runner of the five districts in Massachusetts in raising funds for the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc. Since 1952, District 33N Lions have donated $6,900,000 to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund Inc, more than any other district in the state, representing more than 28 percent of the fund's total donations.
Research grants given by the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund stimulated research that found the cause of retrolental fibroplasia ("blind baby disease"), now known as retinopathy of prematurity. And Boston University's Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Laboratory was created with the help of the Lions.
