    ABOUT THE LAKELAND DERBY
Scheduled for Friday, April 29, 2011, the Derby attracted over 4,000 race fans in 2010 and LVIM looks to increase that total for 2011. "The Lakeland Derby is our signature event that allows us to reach the community and showcase our services", states Bobby Yates, CEO of Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. This event is free to the public and raises much needed funds for LVIM that in turn provides free healthcare for the working uninsured of the community. Yates goes on to comment that "The Derby results in more volunteers and supporters which, gives LVIM the ability to increase our services to this at risk population".

Open and free to the public, The Lakeland Derby features ten beautifully hand-crafted swan paddleboats in a thrilling race to the finish line. Each swan has an owner/breeder who will designate and train their own jockeys to compete for the prestigious annual Lakeland Derby Trophy.

Derby gates open at 5:30pm with live entertainment, concessions, and under card races.
