  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) February 16, 2013 - In the last 15 years, Lunasa has become one of the most sought after bands in Celtic music, all the while redefining the genre with an eclectic mix of arrangements and instruments. Named "the hottest Irish acoustic group on the planet" by the New York Times, Lúnasa will be making their Long Island debut by performing in the Concert Hall at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) on March 3, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The AUPAC is located at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. This is their only Long Island performance - and is just in time to get you in the mood for the St. Patrick's Day holiday.

Lúnasa are known world-wide as one of the finest Irish instrumental bands of recent times. Having formed over 15 years ago, they tour constantly and have performed in venues such as The Hollywood Bowl, the Sydney Opera House in Australia and have been invited to the White House. In 2012, they performed to a sold-out crowd at the National Concert Hall in Dublin; this performance has been recorded and will be released later this year.

Just recently, Kevin Crawford who plays flutes and whistles for the band was named male musician of the year by Live Ireland, an Irish internet radio and television source based out of Dublin. The band also features Seán Smith on fiddles and whistles, Trevor Hutchinson on stand-up bass, local musician Cillian Vallely (from Queens) plays the uilleann pipes and whistles, while recent addition, Ed Boyd, is one of European folk music's most in-demand guitarists. Samples of their music and more on the band can be found at lunasa.ie.

Celebrating its fifth year, Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center is Long Island's premier cultural arts venue for entertainment of all kinds.
