LUNAR Brings Style to Next-Generation BodyMedia Armband Body Monitor
BodyMedia FIT teams up with LUNAR for a new design of the BodyMedia FIT Armband.
- (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - LUNAR today announced a collaboration with wearable body monitor pioneer BodyMedia to design the housing for a next-generation wireless BodyMedia FIT armband that will continuously transmit information on calorie burn, steps taken, physical activity levels and sleep patterns to any WiFi-enabled device for 24x7 assistance in weight management and monitoring of select medical conditions. Scheduled for 2013 release as part of a partnership between BodyMedia and Sprint, the new LUNAR design delivers a high-fashion form factor reminiscent of personal accessories and jewelry with genuine finishes that elevate the armband to premium status.
LUNAR's main challenge was to develop a sleek new design language that would accommodate multiple embedded technologies, including the proprietary BodyMedia four-sensor system that captures physiological data as well as wireless and GPS componentry. The firm's designers created an airy metal frame with a silver color scheme and patterns that can easily be worn with anything from workout clothes to a casual spring dress.
"Even the best technology needs to be packaged in a way that people will embrace. That is particularly true of a product that is designed to be worn on the body," said LUNAR Creative Director Sandrine Lebas. "With a sophisticated look and proud design, the BodyMedia Armband becomes a badge of honor for the health conscious individual."
"Our armbands are designed to be worn around the clock to continuously collect data that affects health and wellness. As such, they need to fit seamlessly into people's lifestyles," said Ivo Stivoric, CTO and VP of New Products for BodyMedia. "This special edition that LUNAR has created for our Sprint product marks a major advance in body monitor industrial design that will help encourage adoption of our technology by health- and style-conscious consumers."
The BodyMedia FIT armbands works as the ultimate personal fitness monitor by collecting physiological data using four unique sensors that capture over 5,000 data points every minute. This raw data includes measurements of heat flux, skin temperature, motion and galvanic skin response. BodyMedia's algorithms convert these readings into calorie burn, physical activity duration, steps taken, and sleep duration and efficiency. The companion online Activity Manager - available at any time via computer or smartphone - stores that information, allows users to set goals and document daily food intake, and recommends activity and dietary adjustments based on each user's actual calorie expenditure and food intake to aid in weight control and other health and wellness management.
