Lucus Wang has moved and is now the founder and Creative Director 1939 Art Academy in Singapore
Wang has his hands full with his latest baby, 1939 Art Academy, a beauty and hairstyling school that aims to improve the standard of Singapore's hairstyling and make-up industry. It's something he obviously has a fervent enthusiasm for, judging by the switch from reserved to animated demeanor when asked about it.
- (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2011 - Singapore - More than just a cut, wash, blow.....1939 Art Academy is not your average beauty and hairdressing academy, overstepping the borders of just technical skill to produce works of true art. Come on down and experience the revolution!
Decide on style, implement, and proceed to payment. Whether it is for hair, make-up, nails or beauty, iconic Creative Director Lucus Wang wants you to know that that is not all there is to a beauty service. And at his academy salon, you get far more than that.
Both a salon and an academy, 1939 Art Academy is a quaint double storey shophouse offers services like nail art, hairstyling, beauty treatment and fashion make-up, amongst others. True to its aim of being a distinguished training school locally and regionally, it offers ITE-certified courses and offers collaborations with brand names like L'Oreal. Dedicated to the expansion and improvement of standard of Singapore's beauty and hairstyling industry, Wang has big dreams about changing the way the beauty and hairstyling industry is viewed.
Here, artistry is shared and emphasized upon - students have to learn not only the technicalities of their profession but nurture a love for the arts as well.
Stepping into the interior, cross-section drawings adorn the walls, beside the brilliant colours of the displayed students' works. Roomy chaise lounges greet you, vinyl flooring gives a homey feel and the eclectic vibe is cemented as you spot a film reel and typewriter on display. It is the essence of the academy's namesake, the year 1939, one of great revolutions, culture, fashion and lifestyle-wise.
This is the environment in which the students, both young and the less young, at 1939 Art Academy learn. An individualistic culture has been slowly cultivated, all the better for students to learn in a creative environment. Innovative teaching methods have seen students spending more time on conceptualizing and preparation work than implementing, and copious hours have been spent exploring cultures as research.
The Academy started in Singapore in 2007 offering smaller-scale hairdressing and make-up courses under the name of 1939 by Purecolour. As the demand for hairdressing, make-up and beauty increased, the Academy rose to the occasion as well, expanding its premises and upping the variety of courses in its syllabus.
On top of unconventional learning methods, students of this academy also study Business management, which Wang hopes will help local practitioners in this industry gain better footing and opportunities.
Singapore's beauty and hairstyling scene looks set to change, with 1939 Art Academy leading the pack.
