- (1888PressRelease) November 09, 2013 - Greeley, CO - LUCAN Technologies, Inc., a startup based in Colorado, has been working on a new modular PC architecture that is based on evolution and convergence of hardware and software. The company has kicked off an Indiegogo campaign for their LUCAN™ Companion PC, aimed at reducing electronic waste of existing PCs. The campaign can be viewed at http://igg.me/at/LUCANPC and the company hopes to raise $500k to bring the product to the market.
The primary goal of the company is to develop a technology that can slow down the rate of PCs becoming e-waste. Analysts predict that there will be more than 2 billion PCs in use by 2020, most of which lack touch input capabilities. The design extends the life of PCs by introducing touch capabilities in an innovative design. "We wanted to give the consumers a clear alternative to replacing or dumping their devices prematurely. But that had to be done with a unique but familiar device, hence our Desktop Tablet PC form factor." stated Murat Erdogan, the CEO and founder of the company.
The Companion PC can be used as a PC with a monitor, an input device by replacing the keyboard and mouse of a PC, or a Tablet PC. When combined with Windows 8, the product will reduce e-waste by introducing touch capabilities and other features to the PCs and will extend their use for many years.
LUCAN™ Companion PC is one of several products being developed by LUCAN Technologies. The company is working on a unique modular architecture that will finally bring convergence to mobile devices. The new architecture will reduce cost, extend the life of all devices, and reduce e-waste significantly. "The end products will be completely modular, upgradable, repairable, reusable, and sharable devices that can be used in different form factor enclosures from tablets to desktops. Users can easily update software of their choice as well as storage, memory and even CPU support."
The LUCAN™ PC brings us closer to much needed convergence of electronic devices by supporting multiple operating systems as well as functioning in different form factors. Details of the products can be seen at company website lucantech.com.
The company wanted evolution and convergence to give the users a fun product that would improve their lives and reduce e-waste, which it believes to be achieved with the Companion PC.
