One of the three stories Parker is nominated for is an undercover investigative piece documenting alleged abuse of Tai, the elephant featured in the 2011 Reese Witherspoon/Robert Pattinson film, "Water for Elephants." The footage reveals elephants being beaten with bull hooks and even a baby elephant is beaten over the head with a metal hook. Parker is also nominated for two other stories including Beagle Testing, and Horse Rescue. All three stories, which aired on KTLA News in Los Angeles, are listed under the Local News Feature category.

Parker is honored to be recognized once again for her compelling work. "I always say we have an obligation to speak up for those with no voice. I applaud the Humane Society of the United States for recognizing journalists, filmmakers and the like for their dedication to these important causes," says Parker.

The winners will be announced Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton, Los Angeles, California. The Humane Society of the United States recognizes mainstream news media, film and music outlets that help to raise public awareness about animal protection issues. The show will air as a one-hour special on Animal Planet in Spring 2012.

Lu's passion for animal advocacy is shown not only through her investigative reporting, but she is also the founder of Lu Parker Project, a nonprofit organization that works to help Los Angeles' at-risk youth and homeless animals through education, the arts, and community projects.
