Lowcountry Local First Produces TV PSA To Promote Buy Local Month

  • Charleston-North Charleston, SC (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2010 - Jamee Haley, Executive Director of Lowcountry Local First (LLF) announced today that the non-profit organization has produced a television public service announcement (PSA) to promote Buy Local Month and the Buy Local Card. The PSA features various Charleston business owners as well as well-known Charleston figures asking people to 'buy local.' LLF will also use this commercial for their viral campaign which encourages Charlestonians to buy from local, independently owned businesses. Richard Almes of Unimedia and Momentum Marketing donated their services to film and edit the PSA.

    The PSA features City of Charleston Mayor, Joseph P. Riley, Jr., College of Charleston Head Basketball Coach, Bobby Cremins and North Charleston Mayor, Keith Summey asking people to 'buy local.' The commercial also includes local business owners such as Mariana Hay, Owner of Croghan's Jewel Box, Mary Capatka, Owner of The Square Onion and Scott Cloud, Owner of the BBQ Joint, as well as Charleston locals that love to support locally-owned, independent businesses. The PSA will play on local television stations such as WCBD-TV and WTAT-TV.

    Haley said, "This year we have expanded our Buy Local Week into Buy Local Month and we've got a lot of great things planned! We're especially excited about our PSA. We had so many wonderful people that stepped up to participate in the commercial and become a voice for our cause. So, be on the lookout for the PSA on your local TV stations!"

    'Buy Local Month' is November 15th - December 15th with a series of events and promotions planned to build consumer awareness. Print ads, articles and the television PSA have been created to draw attention to the initiative. Blogs, Facebook and Twitter posts will feature ongoing events and highlight member businesses throughout the month. Holiday parades on King Street, in Mount Pleasant and Summerville will feature a Buy Local float. A membership drive, green balloon sale and Christmas caroling will take place throughout the 30 days. The 'Buy Local Card' will also be offered for sale for $20 at LLF member locations throughout the Charleston tri-county area. LLF will also be selling the cards at the 2nd Sunday on King Street events on November 14th and December 12th and at numerous member events throughout the month. The card is sponsored by CPM Credit Union and proceeds benefit LLF buy local education initiatives.
