Louisiana Farm Project Launches to Support Children in Foster Care
Fund the Farm launches with hopes of creating a self-sustaining farm to build better lives for more kids in foster care.
- Lafayette, LA (1888PressRelease) December 07, 2011 - Fund the Farm began its fundraising efforts this week, with the hopes of creating a self-sustaining farm in Acadiana to build better lives for more kids in foster care within Louisiana and the U.S. Drawing supporters from all over the country, the campaign is running through January 31, 2012 and has an initial fundraising goal of $28,000.
With nearly 500,000 kids in foster care in the U.S. and 100,000 of them needing permanent homes, it's important to make lasting change. A farm would provide a place for more kids in foster care to live and thrive and for older kids and those who have aged out of the system to come home to and learn essential life skills they'll need as adults, and with so many opportunities for growth and expansion, a farm would quickly become a self-sustaining operation that could make an even bigger impact on foster care in the state of Louisiana and in the U.S.
From December 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012, the "Fund the Farm" campaign is running at IndieGoGo.com, an international funding platform, to raise $28,000 to cover initial costs to start the farm. Supporters of the project get unique perks with local flavor in exchange for their contributions. Learn more about the initial fundraising efforts at IndieGoGo.com/FundTheFarm .
Once launched, the farm will host a year's worth of events, including two FosterJam concert events, a "Cochon de Lait," a crawfish boil, and more to attract visitors to the state and continue growth and expansion efforts for the farm, while also increasing its impact on foster care.
Louisiana residents have the opportunity to take advantage of all of the events taking place on the farm in 2012, as well as reap the benefits a local, organic farm will bring to the community.
